What Courses are Required?
The Minor requires students to complete 21 credit hours (7 courses). These 21 credit hours apply toward the 120 credit hours needed to earn the bachelor’s degree. The first 12 credits hours in the minor comprise four required core leadership courses.
These 21 credit hours include:
- Prerequisite — Foundations of Leadership Study (taken freshman or sophomore year)
- Core courses — 9 credit hours
- Ethical courses— 3 credit hours
- Cross-cultural courses — 3 credit hours
- Elective courses in the minor — 3 credit hours
In addition, students are offered the opportunity to enhance leadership skills through supervised internships in business, government, education and not-for-profit organizations. They also are encouraged to volunteer in a vast array of service organizations in the Newport News area, or participate in program-sponsored group service.
